We’re getting geared up for another WKND getaway! Headed straight for our nation’s capital! Washington DC is known for its cherry trees & the National Mall.
National Monuments
Of course, there are so many National Monuments in Washington D.C., but there are some that are more worth it than others. Some of our favorites are:
The National Archives Museum to see the Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, and The Bill of Rights!
The White House - if you plan ahead, you can apply for a tour. But it is still worth stopping by for a pic!
The Lincoln Monument - admire the size of this sculpture! It’s incredible
Iwo Jima Statue - you can see this one on the drive from the airport, but it’s really cool to go see up close and read about the raising of the flag.
Museums
The Portrait Museum is a must to see the presidential portraits, as well as other historic art!
The Holocaust Museum is a moving exhibit with artifiacts recovered from Jewish homes. Upon arrival, you receive a card, the identity of a Jewish person affected by the Holocaust. As you navigate the three floors of the exhibit, you move through this person’s life.
In the 1920s, the Hillwood Estate and Museum became the home of socialite and art collector, Marjorie Merriweather Post. She is the daughter of C.W. Post, who founded Post Cereal (now General Foods Coporation). She hosted spring garden teas & formal dinners at her estate. In 1977, the estate became a museum filled Marjorie’s jewels and art she collected throughout her life.
Mount Vernon is George Washington’s estate on the Potomac River. See the mansion, the historic outbuildings, the gardens, and the tomb where Georgia and Martha Washington lay.
Where To Eat
Clyde’s Georgetown - ”The original legendary saloon that started it all. Ever since joining the neighborhood in 1963, Clyde’s has become a favorite among residents of Northwest Washington and helped to transform M St. from a row of dimly lit watering holes to the commercial destination it is today.”
Rappahannock Oyster Bar - “Rappahannock Oyster Bar @ The Wharf occupies the restored historic oyster shed (circa 1912) building at the Municipal Fish Market (the oldest fish market in the United States). The restaurant serves a line up of small plate offerings, wines, craft beers, unique cocktails, and of course, our very own celebrated shellfish.”
Muchas Gracias Mexican Restaurant - “Muchas Gracias! began as a pop-up in response to our community’s needs through the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.” Now serving delicious tacos daily, eat for a good cause!
Reveler's Hour - An ever changing menu with delicious tasting plates & pastas, you’re sure to have a good time at Reveler’s Hour.
Going Out
Pearl Street Warehouse - live music, great drinks & a good time!
Go to a National’s Game! Afterward, get a drink at The Bullpen!
