Hello! I'm Emily, and I am so excited to be participating in WKND WYFR's "Where Are You WKNDing?" series! I have two young daughters (5 and 1) so taking quick overnight trips is a tip that works for my husband and me. We don't feel too guilty about leaving for one night and pack in the fun, so it still feels like a real vacation.
Living in South Carolina, Charleston is definitely a go-to destination. We just took a weekend trip there last month to celebrate our anniversary, and my husband and I were impressed with the precautions that the hotels and restaurants are taking to make travelers feel safe. We stayed at the Hotel Emmeline and enjoyed King St shopping, outdoor dining, and walking around the beautiful city.
We love the Lowcountry of SC and were married in Bluffton, SC, so visiting Palmetto Bluff is always a fun way to relive our happy wedding memories. The Inn at Palmetto Bluff has so much to do for families- swimming, kayaking on the river, fine dining and relaxing by the pool or spa, and gathering nightly around the fire pit to roast s'mores.
As a family, we head to the Carolina coast whenever we get a chance. Kiawah Island is a gorgeous beach and ideal for children- wide white sandy beaches, lots of winding paths for bike riding, and you might spy an alligator along the way. Having a cocktail at sunset overlooking the ocean course is a bucket list travel item. Life slows down in Kiawah. It was our first family getaway after quarantining last spring, and some of our favorite memories of the year were spent there. A parenting tip is to take the family for a late afternoon "happy hour" at the sanctuary hotel. You can grab ice cream for the kids at Beaches & Cream and a cocktail for mom and dad from the lobby bar to enjoy while watching the children play on the lawn;).
